IrDA strangeness

Hi All,
I am attempting to use some IrDA units to transmit a string to test the link. Does the IrDA have a full means to do this? or is only certain characters as I'm finding alot of the question marks appearing in the rich text box...?

IrDA doesn't care what it's transmitting. It's likely an Encoding issue. See:

Thanks for that, I have figured it out that the unit I was playing with was sending signals and decoding signals which weren't really ASCII (only the U was as due to the fact of the encoding 1010101010), problem when hardware & software was designed by one person who left!
