Reading the parallel port addresses from the BIOS (or registry) for plugin cards

Does anyone know why this technique does not work for plugin parallel port cards?

If the address shows up in Control Panel, there should be a way to extract it from the registry.
I don't know how to do this though.
Thanks

The devcon utility shows how to obtain information displayed in Device Manager.
