Title: PCI to microcontroller
Post by: rodstar on June 03, 2012, 06:51:08 pm
Hello ppl,

Is there any simple way to communicate a PCI port to a fast microcontroller (80+ MIPS)?
I ask this because I want very close to realtime communication between PC and microcontroller. Faster than serial port, parallel port or USB port.
My idea is to control motors, by instructing the microcontroller to generate multiple pulses by using it's hardware Timers & PWM peripherals.

It's like doing something like this: http://www.pro-dex.com/motion-control/product-catalog/motion-controllers/pci-bus/maxk-multi-axis-motion-controller.aspx (http://www.pro-dex.com/motion-control/product-catalog/motion-controllers/pci-bus/maxk-multi-axis-motion-controller.aspx).
but the cheap way...

I know there are some PCI interfaces like quicklogic QL5822, or PLX's & stuff that probably connect my PCI slot to my microcontroller... would something like that work for what I want???

thx 4 ur time & help!
