Title: Chip configurator

Hi,

First post.  Please forgive any misconceptions and poor terminology.  I'm trying to get my head around what I need.

I am using a Microchip MCP2200 in a circuit.  It is a USB to serial converter.  It can be configured for various parameters like whether it will light up the RX and TX LEDs, the baud rate, hardware flow control etc. etc.  Microchip have a utility to set these parameters.

It is very difficult for me to use Windows.  We do not have it installed at home.  We use Linux.

I'd like to know how to scope a project to build this utility for Linux.  I am not sure of the terms and so forth.

Unfortunate that it apparently doesn't have full Linux support from Microchip.
