Title: Most Robust Interface?

If interfacing with a computer (through USB or RS), which interface is the most robust in respect to ESD and EMI? Then of the two, which text books are recommended for designing a small PCB to be highly robust, if any outside of the USB Complete or Serial Port Complete?

RS-485 is designed for industrial use over longer distances, while USB was designed as a desktop bus for PC peripherals.

Providers of RS-485 interface chips have many application notes dealing with circuit design and noise. Try Maxim and TI. Also see:
