Title: Colors on USB ports
Post by: USBVIDPID on November 30, 2011, 07:17:41 am
Black plastic has been the norm for the plastic in the USB A and B connectors.  What do the other colors mean?

Blue = USB 3.0
Red = ?
Orange = high retention force ???

Is this sort of thing in an ECN for the USB specs that I missed?

(what prompted my question was B & B Electronics Industrial USB Hubs:  UHR304 & UHR204)

Thanks.

I'm not aware of any standards for connector colors.

For what it's worth there is mandatory colour coding for Micro plugs and receptacles (black, white and grey) to be found in Universal Serial Bus
Micro-USB Cables and Connectors, Specification, Revision 1.01.

Found this in the USB 3.0 page 5-60 Table 5-17. Reference Materials under housing comments:  The USB 3.0 Standard-A connector housings are recommended to be Pantone 300C (Blue).
